Naturally Designed 3-D Collage

Project four is a Naturally Designed 3-D Collage and it has quickly become one of our favorites! As with all of our projects, it can be customized for anyone, but we've chosen to design this project for one of the many foodies in our lives. Scroll and enjoy the process of making FOOD...

Here's what you'll need to complete this project:

  • Deep or Shadowbox Frame
  • Matte or Card stock
  • Cutout Magazine Photos of Food
  • Scrapbook Paper
  • Herbs, Seeds, Cinnamon Sticks, Dried Foliage, etc.
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Below you'll see the items we used for our collage.

Along with the dried lavender, whole cloves and cinnamon sticks,

we included a beautiful piece of dried green foliage from Hobby Lobby.

Our frame included a matte, which we used as the base

for our collage. We filled the spaces in the matte with

this yellow-checkered scrapbook paper,

which we glued to the back of the matte.

Once each space was filled, we were ready to collage the matte.

These strips of green lettuce leaves compliments our yellow.

All our collage papers were attached with a glue stick.

Next, we added the red and white checkered

chef-inspired scrapbook paper.

Finally, we glued on fruit and vegetable pictures

with lots of color!

Position carefully as you affix your pictures,

making sure to completely cover the matte.

Now our matte is complete and

we'll build our 'word'.

The "F" is first, made from cinnamon sticks.

Lay out your letter first.

Next, use the multi-purpose glue to affix each piece of

cinnamon stick in your "F".

Carefully glue your pieces in place.

The first "O" was formed from the green foliage

and the second from whole cloves.

The "D" was made with dried lavender.

All the natural items were secured with

multi-purpose glue.

This is our complete collage matte.

On to the frame.....

We glued the glass to the frame for stability with super glue.

Once the glass is placed inside the frame,

press carefully to secure.

Allow time for each separate item to dry.

Place the collage in the frame and secure.

Your natural 3-D collage is complete, ready to wrap and gift the foodie in your life!

We wrapped the collage in natural canvas with burgundy ribbon
and sprigs of herbs tied in the center.

Here is the breakdown of what we spent:

  • Deep Frame- $10-20 (Target frame; Shadowbox frames also available at Hobby Lobby) *Please note: our frame actually came from a yard sale & cost $2!
  • Lavender - $3 (Entire bunch was not used, actual cost @ .75)
  • Dried Foliage- $2 (Used approx. 20% or .40)

  • Scrapbook paper- .50 (2 pages at .25 each)
  • Super Glue- $2 (Two tubes, minimal used from one tube)
