Design Inspirational Word Art!

Project five is Inspirational Art designed especially for a close friend. It's important when designing word art that you either pick a popular phrase that isn't owned or copyrighted, or give credit where credit is due by naming the author.
Here's what you'll need to complete this project:
  • Photo frame in your desired size
  • Scrapbook page
  • Cut out words to make your phrase
  • Ribbon or paper for word background
  • Sandpaper
  • Super Glue
  • Rubber Cement
  • Scissors
  • Scrapbook adornments

Pictured below are the actual items used for the word art.

First we distressed the edges of our red wood frame with sandpaper.

This gives the frame a vintage look.

Next, we cut our scrapbook page to fit our 5x7 framed opening.

Once it was sized correctly, it is carefully glued to the frame backing.

Now we're ready to affix the words to the respective background pieces.

Remember to layout your design first!

First, glue your background piece onto the paper.

Then affix the word to the background.
Once your phrase is glue securely in place, it's time to adorn your word art.

To make this piece more feminine, we've added a flower at the top of the frame...

...and letters to spell the recipient's name at the bottom.

Ta-da!!
Our word art project is complete.
Once we allow time for the project to dry, we custom wrap the gift.

We chose black satin material with sheer red patterned ribbon
and floral adornment as a classy, sophisticated way to present our gift.

Here's a breakdown of what we spent on this project:

  • Frame (5x7 Recycled) - Free (Cost new -$2 Dollar General)
  • Scrapbook paper page - .80 (Michael's)
  • Floral adornments (set of 8) - $1 (Dollar Tree)
  • Letters (4 sets of ABC's) - $1.49 (Target)
  • Ribbon (As-is, partial roll) - .87 (Hobby Lobby)
  • Satin (scrap) - On hand (approx. .75 value)

Total cost to complete project: $6.91

Our cost (including recycled/stuff on hand): $4.16

Remember, our costs often include excess products that we'll use for other projects, so once we've completed our first TEN projects, you'll have more accurate numbers on just how frugal you can be when you recycle, reuse and get creative so...

...get inspired to design word art of your own!
